POSITION: Assistant Hatchery Manager

REPORTING TO: Hatchery Manager

ABOUT THE COMPANY:  Aviagen is the world’s leading poultry breeder, providing pedigree lines for broiler production. Aviagen decided to expand its local reach and global footprint within Africa by establishing “Aviagen East Africa Limited”. By this, it has built in Tanzania, the first Grandparent (GP) farms (in the whole of East Africa) and a Parent Stock (PS) hatchery.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

To plan, organize, lead and control all aspects and duties assigned to him/her during the presence or absence of the Hatchery Manager in order to achieve the production standards for the specific operation under his/her control. All company policies and procedures as described in the Standard operating procedure manual, company procedures and training sessions should be strictly adhered to.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Managing staff during the absence of a manager by overseeing the following: Attendance registers and leave allocations, Staff appearance- dress code and condition, Adherence to biosecurity protocols, Staff discipline, Staff morale and absenteeism and Staff training.
• Monitoring procedural compliance of the following aspects: Biosecurity Procedures, Egg receiving procedure, Egg grading procedure, Egg room management and temperature regulation, Egg setting procedure, Egg transfer procedure.
• Programming of the setters and hatchers must be understood and easily applied
• Maintenance on all equipment in and outside of the hatchery.
• Understanding SPIDES procedure and also implementing it.
• Monitor work flow efficiency during hatch day
• Assist Hatchery workers on daily tasks and duties
• Monitor Hatchery environment as well as pressures on a daily basis
• Fence and perimeter management on a daily basis
• Monitoring water level.
• Ground maintenance (on and off site)
• Routine checks on inside and outside of machines
• Housekeeping in all parts of the hatchery
• Rodent control as per schedule
• Gas levels to be monitored and report when reach a certain level.
• Site security and key control must always be adhere to
• Vaccine control and administration as per the approved operating procedure
• Timely completion of cleaning.
• Checklists including OH&S, maintenance, consumables and procedures.
• Maintaining accurate records for all set.
• Machine chart records must be allocated and filled in correctly
• Chemical storage and control must be maintained according to regulations.
• Loose asset control.
• Maintenance of plant and equipment- fixed and loose
• Protective clothing control and monitoring.
• Reporting and communication of accurate, consistent and appropriate information

Qualifications:

Required

• Bachelor of Science in Agriculture or Animal Health or Equivalent

Desired:

• Health and safety training (first aid, fire fighting, health and safety representative, accident investigation etc.)
• Drivers licence
