POSITION:  Senior Accountant

REPORTING TO: General Manager with a Dotted line to Head of Accounts

ABOUT THE COMPANY:  Aviagen is the world’s leading poultry breeder, providing pedigree lines for broiler production. The company has wholly owned operations in the UK, Europe, Turkey, South Africa, Brazil, India, Australia, New Zealand and the US, and joint ventures in Turkey, Africa and Asia. Supported by our network of distributors, we supply customers in more than 130 countries.

Aviagen decided to expand its local reach and global footprint within Africa by establishing “Aviagen East Africa Limited”. By this, it has built in Tanzania, the first Grandparent (GP) farms (in the whole of East Africa) and a Parent Stock (PS) hatchery.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

To ensure efficiency of poultry farm accounting operations. In consultation with the leadership, the Senior Accountant will prioritize tasks and ensure that AEAL employees conforms to the laid down policies and procedures, and agreed work practices to the business meets its set KPIs.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepare and review daily and monthly production reports and allocations
• Manage month-end production accounting close to ensure accuracy of data for all production
• Analyze daily production data and run queries and reports which assist in reconciling errors and monitoring daily production changes
• Ensure AP/AR activities are executed in a timely manner
• Work with field personnel to resolve data issues
• Issue prior period adjustments and corrections to allocations accounting system
• Prepare monthly reports
• Analyze and explain production variances
• As needed or requested, handle other activities to support well operations, audits and accounting obligations
• Analyzes, evaluates, and assists in development and maintenance of program budget
• Assists in creating quotes
• Monitoring and analyzing accounting data and produce financial reports or statements
• -Oversee the operations like- Month end process, Accounts payable/receivable, Cash receipts, General ledger, Payroll and utilities, Treasury, Budgeting, Cash forecasting, Revenue and expenditure variance analysis, Capital assets reconciliations, Trust account statement reconciliations, Check runs, Fixed asset activity, Debt activity
• -Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports or statements
• -Coordinate and complete annual audits and provide recommendations when needed
• -Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions
• -Meet financial accounting objectives
• -Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions

REQUIREMENTS:

• 5 years or more relevant experience is required
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Poultry or processing accounting is highly preferred
• Must be a registered member of NBAA with a CPA (T)
• Understanding of poultry operations is preferred
• Strong knowledge of Excel, Great Plains. Any ERP experience is considered a plus.
• Excellent verbal, written communication and organizational skills
• Detailed-oriented approach and the ability to prioritize workflow and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Also, willing to work late hours when deadlines need to be met
• Ability to multi-task, analyze and identify variances
• Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations
• High attention to detail and accuracy
