Materuni is the home of the Chagga people and is still an authentic tribal village. This charming place is just 15km away from Moshi Town and it is the last village before the Kilimanjaro National park.

Special Tour Operators rate is 25 USD per person Upon arrival, you will register at the village office and your trip can begin. First you will visit Materuni waterfall, which is around a 40-minutes’ walk. On the way, your guide will inform you about the culture of the Chagga, village life and explain the surrounding fauna and flora.
The views are truly breathtaking and with some luck you will see the view of Kilimanjaro. When you reach the waterfalls, you will see that they are more than 80 meters high. The pool at the bottom of the waterfall is an inviting place for a refreshing swim so don‘t forget your swimwear.
After having enjoyed the scenery, you slowly return with your guide to Mama Agnes home, where you will experience a traditional Chagga lunch. You also will have the opportunity to taste our local banana beer – definitely not to be missed! But that’s not all.
Next the coffee tour awaits you. Here you will learn how coffee is cultivated, dried, roasted and further processed

You will also be invited to help with the grinding of the coffee, which is traditionally accompanied by Chagga songs and dances – a fun way to immerse yourself in the local culture. Before you say goodbye and return in the afternoon to Moshi, you can savor the coffee you made and appreciate the views of the surrounding montane rainforest.

MAMA AGNES HOME MATERUNI
Village accomodation at Materuni
Special Tour Operators rate is 25 USD per person per night. Mama Agnes Home was found by Elisante Shirima and Consolata Lulu to welcome the visitors of Materuni village
It is the only guest accommodation at Materuni village and therefore the perfect
place to experience local lifestyle as well as visit the beautiful surroundings. Elisante and Consolata are dedicated to make you feel at home during your stay. The home is surrounded by nature, between banana trees and coffee trees. While staying at Mama Agnes Home, you can experience sunrise on the Kilimanjaro, walks in the village as well as hiking in the rainforest. This is the perfect stay if you want to experience local lifestyle!
Double rooms and single rooms are available. We can accommodate maximum of 10 people but soon we are adding 4 rooms which will increase the number of people we are able to accommodate to (18 pax maximum per night.)
We also offer additional services upon request in cooperation with Materuni Village Cultural Tours, such as following activities: Materuni Waterfall hike (highest waterfall in Moshi), traditional cooking, class, picnic lunch and coffee tour

* Children below 12 years pay 50% of adult price, Children having their own room pay 75% of adult price
* Special quote will be provided for more than two children in the group
* Day room is 50% of the rate * Tour leader pays half price but when tour leader bring more than 5 people tour leader will stay for free
